Cubic Interactive Ltd, an established independent software company, began life over 13 years ago when the three founders, Duncan Hartop, Daniel LoGiudice and Blake Edwards found themselves working together at Broadway Malyan

They soon began debating the finer points of setting up their own business and it wasn’t long before discussion turned into action. They decided to make the leap and in 2001 established Cubic Interactive Ltd

The Cubic Interactive Umbrella.

With their experience of the professional services and construction industry coupled with their software development expertise, it soon became obvious that there was a need to develop an innovative practice management solution that met the needs of AEC professionals much better than products already on the market, Rapport3 was born.

The success of Rapport3 showed the potential for an email management tool aimed at users across all industries and Gekko was launched in April 2015.

In 2015, Cubic announced their expansion into Canada.

So Why AEC?

Two Directors are Engineers and have worked in large Engineering practices. All three Directors met at a large Architectural practice, working in the IT department.

What problems are specific to the AEC industry?

The keys issues within the AEC relate to managing many types of projects from large complex projects to lots of smaller projects. Trying to understand the profile of the project and budget can be challenging. Margins have been driven down in recent years, so accurate job costing has become a necessity to ensure the project doesn’t lose money. A key challenge with construction projects is not only having to deal with a client, but also working within a large team of Architects, Engineers, Consultants, QS’s etc This is different to the standard supplier/customer relationship.

Why do we love helping the AEC industry so much?

It’s an industry we understand and enjoy helping to make run more profitably. Architects are very visual and enjoy the design side of running a project but often require help on the financial side and Rapport3 aids in this.   Cubic Interactive continues to develop Rapport3 and Gekko focusing on meeting the changing needs of their clients within the industry. They have just opened up an additional office in Ireland and the summer of 2015 will see them continue to expand with the introduction of Rapport3 and Gekko throughout Canada. With so many years of providing software solutions to major organisations, Cubic Interactive are certainly no strangers to developing intelligent tools to help users effectively manage their productivity.

Daniel LoGiudice Director

Daniel is one of the founders of Cubic Interactive and has been playing a role in shaping the organisation’s direction since the beginning in 2001. Before starting up Cubic Interactive with fellow Directors Duncan and Blake, he spent five years in IT at Broadway Malyan and was involved in everything from development to implementation, but now heads up sales and marketing. “I love meeting new companies and helping them analyse their business using Rapport3, as well as listening to customers and coming up with new features to meet their needs. Running and being in control of a business and coming up with wacky future plans is fun too – many don’t work, but occasionally we get it right!” When not in the office or out and about meeting clients, you can find him spending time with his wife Emma and new son Henry or, if he can find the time, looking up at the sky or down at the ground – either to gaze at the stars through his telescope, or at bugs from his pond through his microscope. He’s also passionate about travelling and adventure, usually cramming far too much into a short holiday. He once travelled from New York to Florida by train – for a day trip!

Duncan Hartop Director

Duncan is one of the three founders of Cubic Interactive, and has helped run the business along with Daniel and Blake since 2001. His career has seen him working in IT in various areas of the construction industry for the last 26 years, from consulting engineers and architects to contractors. Before starting up Cubic Interactive, he spent several years at Broadway Malyan as IT Director but today oversees all operational activities across Cubic Interactive. Running a company is a time-consuming business, but when he’s not making sure operations are running as smoothly as possible at Cubic, Duncan likes to get away from the daily grind by getting into the country for a bit of cycling or hill walking. He’s also bit of a petrol-head and loves all things automotive – car chat will always be a winner!

Blake Edwards Director

Blake founded Cubic alongside Duncan and Daniel.  After graduating as a Structural Engineer from Heriot Watt University Edinburgh he worked for Whitby and Bird as a Design Engineer, working  on a number of prestigious office and residential projects in Mayfair, London. The move to Broadway Malyan to pursue his love of software development was where he designed and developed their ground breaking Business Management System. This system became the forerunner of our Rapport system. Blake has been with Cubic for 13 years and now heads up our support office in Harrogate “I love dealing with our customers on a daily basis. I have developed many fantastic working relationships over the years. I relish the challenge of writing intuitive software that really solves problems for our customers” When not working, he enjoys Sailing Yachts with family and friends in the UK and abroad. He also has a passion for flying aeroplanes and viewing the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside from the air. A man of many talents, Blake also plays guitar in a band who perform in a number of local pubs.

Mo Abbas Software Implementation Consultant

Mo joined Cubic Interactive soon after he completed his degree in Computing at London Metropolitan University. Although he had some software development experience, since working for Cubic he’s been able to develop software at a commercial level and is now involved in supporting the development of and implementing Rapport3. He also enjoys helping clients make the most of Rapport3 and getting to know their businesses. “It’s great to be able to work very closely with many of the organisations that influence the built environment and help create some of the landmarks and major works that we see. It’s also great to get an insight into the architecture and engineering world.” When he’s not in the office writing software or out meeting clients, you might see him in a white Red Cross uniform rushing to save the world (or just the London bits) from floods, fires and other catastrophes. He’s been volunteering with the Red Cross for nearly four years now working as an emergency responder and emergency medic, a role which he finds incredibly rewarding.

Will Blackburn Software Support Manager

Will has been with Cubic Interactive  since the beginning of 2014. Before becoming a member of Team Cubic, he was responsible for all IT for a large veterinary practice, including the management of all hardware and networks across their 14 sites and the training for over 100 staff. He also drove the implementation of one of the first cloud based solutions for a veterinary practice, helping to make the business more efficient.  Despite his short time at Cubic, he’s already enjoying being part of the team. “I really enjoy the challenge of delving into new technical problems and working with the clients. The clients are all very friendly and the office environment here is brilliant, with plenty of support from my colleagues.” A keen gamer, when not in the office you might find him leading fleets of spaceships into combat, destroying planets and defending large areas of space in the world of the player-driven game Eve-Online. However, his unwavering faithfulness to the game has been tested lately; he’s recently become a father and it seems fatherhood can sometimes get in the way of the serious business of ‘Internet Spaceships’!

Liam Both Software Support Consultant

Liam is our newest recruit at Cubic Interactive joining us at the beginning of April 2015.

He worked for a solicitors in mortgages for 3 years until he was offered a position in the IT team as an Application Support Specialist. His role involved handling help desk queries, supporting case management systems, looking after servers and services.  He also learnt how to use SQL to build reports and deploy them into the reporting system.

“I like that the Cubic team make you feel like a valued member of the business.  No two days are the same and there is always something new to help out with.  I love that I get to use up to date tech and that Cubic are using the latest Cloud and Web Technology”.

Bruce Bottomley Technical Author

After graduating from the University of Northumbria, Bruce’s career first took him into the automotive industry where he worked as marketing assistant. While busy producing product catalogues and thinking up ways to expand product ranges, he gained his Diploma in Marketing before deciding to take his career in a different direction, moving into the world of newspaper publishing – until Cubic Interactive came knocking on his door! He’s kept pretty busy at Cubic, but in his spare time he’s an avid collector of vinyl records (the more obscure the artist the better!) and is passionate about books – Edward Abbey, John Muir and Ismail Kadare are particular favourites. He’s been with Cubic Interactive for three years now and loves being a part of Team Cubic and Rapport3. “I like working as part of a small, vibrant, friendly company which has an excellent product and where everyone has real ‘can do and will do’ attitude to constantly keeping Rapport3 ahead of the game. I enjoy the challenge of trying to keep the support documentation up to date and user friendly, and it’s good to know something that I have written might have helped someone solve a problem without the need to raise a ticket’.

Matt Bowden Senior Web Developer

Matt joined Cubic Interactive very recently in March 2014. Starting out with the British Library working on their digital document initiative; Matt then went on to work for William Hill Sportsbook, ‘Harrogate Advertiser’, and then The ‘Yorkshire Post’ as a Web Developer. Before joining Cubic Interactive he worked for an Insurance company as a software developer. “Cubic has a great friendly relaxed atmosphere. Since we have a small team you can manage your own project from start to finish which gives you great design freedom and enables you to produce something really special. It is also the only place I’ve ever worked where there is an official office dog – weird but cool!” Outside of work, Matt is a big fan of the NFL and has obsessively followed the San Francisco 49ers across the US for over twenty five years. He hopes to get back and watch them play again later this year.

Danielle Cahill Head of Operations

Danielle brings a wealth of experience to her role.  After graduating with a degree in Commerce and Italian from the University College in Dublin, Danielle qualified as a Chartered Accountant and spent 4 years working in Financial services for Deloitte. She has since worked in Financial roles for Harvey Nichols and more recently within the AEC Industry for Purcell (Architects) and Louise Bradley (Interior Designers) Danielle is really looking forward to overseeing the Operations and helping clients make the most of Rapport3. “My role allows me to combine my skills in Finance and Project Management across an Industry I am passionate about. Having worked in two companies that use Rapport3, it has given me a very good insight in to how the system works in practice. This will hopefully allow me to have a greater understanding of the needs and demands of our clients” When not dealing with all things financial, Danielle has an interest in Fashion, Art & Design and has just completed a year long course in Interior Design.  A keen snowboarder and surfer, she enjoys keeping fit and partaking in outdoor activities –  not to mention being kept busy running around after her daughter Ava who is nearly a year old. Danielle has travelled extensively around the world over the past 15 years and even managed to keep up to speed with her Bi Lingual skills after a year long stint living in Milan.

Sandi Cant Financial Controller

Sandi has been with Cubic Interactive for around 8 years.  As a freelance book keeper she has dealt with a wide spectrum of accounts from graphic design agencies, a children’s organic clothing, accessories and hairdressing company and a structured Finance management company. “I like the fact there is a happy, easy going atmosphere here – even when everyone is frantically heading towards deadlines. I think this reflects on our relationship with our clients, we get the job done but we are also an approachable company too The Team Cubic Christmas dinner event is always something to look forward to as well!” An adventurer at heart, Sandi makes the most of her free time horse riding, snow shoeing, and practising her target shooting . She loves travelling and especially enjoys exploring the Pacific.

Steve Cherrill Project Manager / Implementation Consultant

Steve is the newest addition to the team joining us as a Project Manager/Implementation consultant in the final quarter of 2015. He brings a wealth of software experience from business analysis, project management and implementation consultancy – even the odd bit of development work.

Software experience is certainly something he has, being involved in a range of projects lasting for 4 days to even a project in the ‘billions of pounds’ range.

“I enjoy transposing the businesses objectives into the software solution incorporating process improvement and cultural change”

Steve also enjoys combing the physical and the mental; interests include running, swimming, various courses and he also highly recommends TED talks (https://www.ted.com/).

Mark Creamer Consultant (EMEA)

Mark joined Cubic Interactive 2 years ago. Although he initially began his career in Jig & Tooland Press tool design, he soon moved into the sales environment and when he joined Team Cubic he brought with him 25 years of sales experience in the AEC industries. He’s always lived by the water and has a passion for all water-based activities, getting out onto the water as often has he can and getting involved with as many water sports as possible from boating to water-skiing and wakeboarding. A very sociable person, the most important part of Cubic Interactive to Mark is the people. “Cubic Interactive are a small focussed team of dedicated staff who really enjoy the business. I enjoy working with a team of professionals who are not only good at what they do, but are very entertaining – both inside and outside the work environment!”

Phil Grosset Product Development Manager

Phil spent many years working in the Education and IT sectors, before joining Cubic Interactive in September 2014. He brings his wide ranging experience of database and web development at companies such as Intel and Compaq. As a teacher, he also has experience getting teenagers interested in Shakespeare and databases (not necessarily in the same lesson!). “I’m really pleased to be working in such a friendly team, at an exciting time for the company. There are lots of big developments ahead, and I feel I’m in the right place at the right time.” Outside of work, Phil is a novelist and musician, and an appreciator of the finer points of malt loaf.

Lorna Maughan Business Development Manager (North America)

As the Business Development Manager for North America, Lorna heads up our new office in Toronto showcasing our Rapport3 and Gekko Software to the AEC and Professional services Industry. “I am very excited to have joined the Cubic team; this is a dynamic, innovative and growing company which I am proud to represent here in Canada.”  Lorna has a strong background in the financial services Industry having worked for over 20 years in Sales and advising clients with regards to financial planning and retirement.  Whilst living in the UK, Lorna was also a school governor which she really enjoyed, “It helped me better understand the UK education system and I was able to assist the school in their financial needs” And now settled in Canada she is hoping to dedicate her free time doing something similar.

Liz Seymour Digital Marketing Manager

Liz has worked in Marketing in a wide range of sectors for over 10 years.  She studied Multimedia Technology at Birmingham City University so really enjoys putting her Marketing Skills to good use  in a ‘Techie’ Industry “The Digital age is progressing and changing so rapidly and I’m excited to be part of this and get my teeth into the many upcoming projects that Cubic have planned in the near future” Liz has a passion for anything creative and is a keen drawer and painter.  A fan of Vintage items she is also a dab hand at upcycling ( turning old into new)  and  when she’s not busy looking after her two children she can usually be found with her head in a book or working on her next new project.

Neil Shepherd Senior Software Developer

Neil has been a programmer for the last 16 years, starting out in the entertainment industry before embarking on a career that has seen him working on and developing vehicle tracking software, RIFD and warehousing solutions, automated hardware and networking auditing tools. Most recently, he worked in cloud-based accounting on the Salesforce platform, before joining Cubic Interactive in December 2013. Neil really does live and breathe all things tech – not content to spend just his working hours around computers and software he also collects old computers and runs an online museum dedicated to old tech (www.theneil.plus.com). So, with such variety in his career and such a passion for tech, what is it that he likes about working at Cubic Interactive? “I have a big say in how I work, what we develop and how we develop it. I like working with like-minded people who take my ideas on board and are passionate about creating the very best systems we can. In short, I like not being a little cog in a big machine.”

Kevin Sherratt Senior Software Developer

Kevin has enjoyed a varied and rewarding career which has included working with Information Management systems through to developing e- commerce websites and scheduling digital television systems. Starting out at the  University of Lancaster, Kevin studied Computer Science and Software Engineering. After graduating with a first class honours degree, Kevin rapidly integrated himself as a staff member within the IT department of the University. Kevin’s recent work includes development of several e-commerce websites for well known, high-street brands as well as a mental health records system utilised by many NHS services around the country. This self confessed ‘Jack of all trades’ has certainly been around but already sees Cubic as a great step up in his career and the perfect place to utilise his skills “Coming from a varied background, the AEC industry is an education, it’s new and exciting for me and it’s clear the team are passionate about the product and constantly striving to develop it further” When not in front of a computer screen, you can find Kevin outside tending to his home grown produce. “I have 8 different apple trees in the garden, two of them grafted by myself from Yorkshire varieties; along with these I have 3 pear trees, a nectarine, a cherry and a fig tree with a plethora of vegetables during the summer months” Kevin is also an avid music fan and has even developed his own Music app for windows 8.1 . looks like Kevin is a man with many talents!

Chris Tobin Software Support Consultant
Chris is one of the newest members of the team and joining the support team in Harrogate suits him down to the  ground considering how passionate he is about all things tech. He has worked in various areas of the IT industry from infrastructure to software, supporting, configuring, fixing and maintaining a range of devices from servers to tablets.

Chris enjoys what he does as there is always something to learn and new problems to be solved.

In his spare time, Chris likes to travel as much as he can and explore new cities and cultures. Rome is one of his favourite places.

Chris also enjoys long hikes when the weather is nice around the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

Monty The Office Dog

A VIP part of the team  and well known and loved by customers and our team alike – Monty the Chocolate Labrador enjoys nothing more than exploring the Yorkshire countryside with his family.

Super-chilled out, Will can be found either sleeping under Blake’s desk, working on his plans for world domination in his secret lab, or begging food from his office mates; usually the newest most unsuspecting members of the team.
